Do not take Celebrex 200mg capsule if you are allergic to Celecoxib or any of its ingredients. Inform your doctor if you had reactions to sulfonamide medicines, suffer from ulcers or bleeding in the stomach or intestines, or experienced adverse reactions to NSAID medications like aspirin. Pfizer Inc. has today approved the submission of a abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) to the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval of a Celebrex, a once-daily oral formulation of Celecoxib in a lower dose form, with no indication for its safety or efficacy in the treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) patients.
The development of the compound, which is not approved for the treatment of osteoarthritis, is a milestone in Pfizer’s development of a drug that is as effective as celecoxib in the management of the condition.
Pfizer has a long history of developing and commercializing pain relievers, and has invested heavily in its efforts to improve its R& D pipeline, which includes products such as Advil, Motrin, Lyrica, Voltaren, and Celebrex.
Pfizer is in the process of completing an R& D cycle for Celebrex that includes development of a more potent formulation that is as effective as its current formulation. The drug will be submitted for FDA approval and will be sold in the U. under the brand name Celebrex.
According to Pfizer, the drug will be effective in reducing pain and inflammation in people with OA by up to 50% in 12 weeks. Its effectiveness is further supported by an ongoing study that has confirmed that Celebrex is not a placebo.
“The development of Celebrex in a low dose form is a significant milestone in Pfizer’s R& D program,” said Dr. John R. Dibbs, Pfizer’s senior vice president of research and development. “Celebrex is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which is used in the treatment of osteoarthritis, particularly in the short term to reduce pain and inflammation.”
Pfizer is pleased that the FDA approved Celebrex for this indication, and will continue to evaluate the drug in the future.
